In order to advance the common knowledge on the Economics of Grid Computing, since 2004, an annual workshop has been organized in collaboration with IEEE or with major conferences like EuroPar. On the long way from the first computer clusters in the eighties and nineties of the last century to the vision of an open commercial Grid, where all kinds of Grid services can be traded, the following research questions, which are addressed within Gecon workshops, will ensure that we stay on the right track:

  • Analysis of the functionality of the existing Grid technology
  • Business modeling
  • Market mechanisms
  • Service-orientation of Grid systems
  • Specification of incentives for participation and resource sharing
  • Specification of economic-aware Grid services
  • Analysis of pricing schemes for Grid systems
  • Reports on Grid test beds and operation
  • Analysis of application scenarios (with stakeholders and roles)
  • Resource selection and allocation
  • Metering, accounting, charging, billing systems
  • Security issues on the Grid
  • Decision support systems for Grid users and providers
  • Capacity planning systems
  • Service level agreements
  • Economic models for the Grid
  • Economic aspects of existing Grid applications
  • Reports on national and international projects on Grid systems
  • Trust and Risk management
  • Standardization Virtual organizations
  • Economic aspects of identity management
  • Impact of legal requirements on Grid operation

Please, find more informaition about the specific workshops on the linked websites. The proceedings were published by various publishers like the IEEE and Springer LNCS. The last two GECON workshops have been organized by the CNDS research group at the International University in Germany.
